Who Am I? - I am a late to start “artist” but found peace, tranquility and expression in clay. Since a very young age, I was drawn to creation of some sort. My Mother and her family are musicians, sculptors, painters and all-around creative people. Beginning with drawing, painting, needlepoint, leather carving, decorating and the childhood desire to own a pottery wheel, I always found a happy place. As with many of us, life gets in the way and I did not pursue any regular expression of myself but in short bursts in various fields. A number of years ago I was swept into the clay world of muck, dust and a sense of place.
I am most inspired by the mysteries of the ocean and hold great respect for its power and the creatures that live in that underwater world. My sea creations are a piece of the ocean pride and heritage that surrounds me here in Newfoundland. These creations are representations of the beauty that I find in the environment and creatures of the deep.
There is no perfection in our world and therefore the imperfections of sculpting creatures, or wheel throwing pots, bowls or any other useful (or non useful) items are the beauty in the art.
